If you play with fire…
Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Unfortunately for Sam, her first private client makes her want to break every single one of them.
Harrison Yates is scorching hot, but he’s got a past that involves being left at the altar not too long ago. Sam is determined to make him forget about his ex, but when she makes her move, it flings her life into a spiral of chaos she never saw coming.
Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.
Let me start off saying, I’m very excited to participate in the A Little Too Hot Blog Tour! This is my first blog tour, so please, bare with me. I had certain expectations for A Little Too Hot after reading A Little Too Far and A Little Too Much… And let me just say this now: Desrochers does NOT disappoint! A Little Too Far was one of my most highly anticipated novels of last year. Come on–hooking up with your stepbrother? That just screams sexy and trouble! After reading Lexie’s story and loving Desrocher’s writing, I knew I had to follow up with whatever she wrote next. In all honesty, it took me a couple of pages to realize who exactly Sam was. I’d read Lexie’s story a while back, so at first it didn’t click that the Sam I was reading about now was Lexie’s best friend, Sam! Everything I’d previously read before made so much more sense once I realized that.
A Little Too Hot starts right in the middle of things. Sam’s just been fired from her job and with the help of a friend, she lands another gig… this one dancing at a gentlemen’s club. Sam’s hesitant but she needs the money and even though she’s dancing in scantily clad clothes, she’s not taking anything off. Not realizing that this Sam was the one from A Little Too Far, I started her story without any previous prejudices. The side of Sam we got in A Little Too Far was the bratty, best friend side–which doesn’t do Sam any justice at all. The Sam I got to know in this book was so much more–determined, feisty, sensual and sweet. Sam and Harrison meet her first night working at Benny’s, and from that very first dance, you know their chemistry is going to be wickedly hot and explosive.
“Every page is deliciously breathtaking, wickedly sexy and sensational. A LITTLE TOO HOT is wonderfully unique and a LOT HOT! I am a HUGE Lisa Desrochers fan.” — Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of REAL
Harrison… He completely blew me away–and not only because of the turn of events. Harrison’s much more complex than you’d originally think. He has his fare share of skeletons in his closet, but there’s more to his past than he originally lets on. He’s strong, sexy, infuriating, protective–everything I want in a hero. Just like the story’s twists and turns take us by surprise, Sam takes him completely by surprise. Just getting out of a eight year relationship, Harrison isn’t looking for anything serious. At all. But one look at Sam and he’s hooked.
“Lisa is brilliant at creating sizzling sexual tension and impossible circumstances that make the reader hold their breath all the way to happy ever after.” — Jay Crownover, New York Times bestselling author of RULE
I was expecting a scorchingly hot and steamy romance between the two main characters. And I definitely got it–but before that there was all this angst and built-up desire bubbling to the surface with each look, with each touch. Their situation is a complicated one and Desrochers wrote and handled it perfectly, with just the right amount of tease. Sam and Harrison are very, very, very attracted to each other, but they refuse to give in despite the sexual tension. And, yes, while that made it that much more explosive once they finally got together, I admired Sam’s stance and refusal to so easily overlook Harrison’s lies. Another thing I loved: Sam and Harrison don’t change each other; one doesn’t save the other from a troubled past. What they do is heal and complement each other. Sam isn’t this broken girl, but she is a little bruised. Same thing with Harrison. Their relationship is a give and take, even from the beginning, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
Lastly, I was so happy Desrochers decided to include Lexie’s wedding reception scene! Sam and Lexie’s reconciliation was one I was hoping for. The only thing I had a slight problem with was the “mole” revelation in the end. It wasn’t that I saw it coming (because I kind of did), but the hasty manner in which it was revealed was sort of anticlimactic. Nevertheless, A Little Too Hot is a book I won’t be forgetting anytime soon! Every once in a while you read books that completely take you by surprise. This is one of them.
“Lisa Desrochers’ best yet! A LITTLE TOO HOT is hotter than hot with all the emotional punch to back it up!” — Sophie Jordan, New York Times bestselling author
